GEORGE CARLIN – AN AMAZING COMEDIAN OF HIS ERA

George Carlin is one of the biggest names in stand up comedy, who ever lived. He was born in the Bronx. His way of expression and selection of words were terrific and took comedy to new levels. He and his brother Pat were brought up in Manhattan, New York. Unfortunately, things went wrong and their mother Mary left their father Patrick when George was very young. Then a time of great struggle began for their mother. George was very inspired from the entire struggle and hardships his mother had to face and it provoked him to make something out of himself at a quite early age.

Mary Carlin took a secretary job to earn living for her children. She was a Catholic. George had often been spotted as an atheist and spoke in favor of the separation of the church from the state in his comedy routines. George became well known because of Ed Sullivan show and The Tonight Show. His career took full swing in the 1970s when he discovered his recognized his talent and passion for comedy. He started coming on his own. He was truly appreciated and got fame for his Seven Words ‘You Can Never Say On Television’. It was a perfect blend of comedy with political, legal, and social agendas. He was even arrested for some of his controversial performances. The issue was taken to the Supreme Court in U.S, which ruled that the program was indecent. However, he got rid of the case on the basis of the right to freedom of expression. The controversies further gave more hype and fame to him.
George Carlin has always been popular among stand up comedians and has remained an inspiration for many. George further earned fame and popularity when he became the pioneer host of Saturday Night Live in the 1970s. However, after 1975, Carlin started facing various health issues that were majorly due to his drug abuse. He regained his glory in the 1980s and made a striking come back by releasing specials and also by making a debut in films.


He did many children’s television comedy and his own sitcom named The George Carlin Show which became very popular among masses. He also wrote a book named Brain Droppings that was released in the 1990s. His book was appreciated and earned huge fame. George Carlin also made several appearances and cameos with the director Kevin Smith. His stand upcomedy videos are still popular among comedy lovers. He was no less than a legend, who opened new horizons in the field of comedy.
