Bill Cosby: The Comedy Legend
The name of Bill Cosby is not unfamiliar to
anyone who loves stand up comedy. He is an icon and an inspiration of stand up comedy for all the stand up comedians. Our today’s article is about this great
comedy legend who has spent his years making people laugh.
As a child, Cosby did not like going to
school. Due to his lack of interest in school, he failed and repeated his tenth
grade. He dropped out of school but was able to complete it via a
correspondence course when he was in the US army. Soon afterwards, he also left
army and got admission in the Temple University. Cosby was always passionate
about comedy and thus it was not long before he left the university as well began
his career in comedy.
He started his career and earning by doing
stage performances. At the start of his career, Cosby faced many hardships and
struggled a lot in making a name for himself. However gradually, Cosby polished
his comedy skills further. He earned acknowledgements through his performances in
The Tonight Show with Johny Carson. His performances in the show caught the
attention of a television producer Sheldon Leonard, who offered him a leading
role in his new series. Thus, Cosby was the first ever African American to play
a lead role in an American drama.
Sometime later, Cosby started his own stand
up comedy show “The Bill Cosby Show” which earned fame and recognition in no
time. Cosby then gave himself a brief break as a stand up comedian and started
experimented with films. Hickey and Boggs was his debut film. In 1972, Cosby
started working on television again with an animated television series called
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids
For the next few years, Cosby did not appear
much on television except his guest host appearance in The Tonight Show. In the
meantime he got a master’s degree from the Massachusetts University his
doctorate degree in education in 1977.
Cosby made a comeback on television and
appeared in a sitcom in 1984. His sitcom and The Cosby Show got amazing ratings
and were ranked amongst the top television shows in America. Through his TV
appearances, Cosby earned a handsome amount of 60 million dollars per annum,
which made him the most highly paid television celebrities in entire America.
