Humor and Psychology
Humor is very healthy thing for human
minds. According to various studies conducted during the 19th
century, it was determined that mental disorders and illnesses, particularly
depression can be treated effectively with the help of humor and laughter. When
a person laughs, his body secretes hormones that trigger responses that make
you optimistic and boost your morale.
The father of psychology, Freud stated in
his researches regarding human psychology that humor, which does not reduce or
degrade the self-esteem of a person, is the one which has some magical power of
healing the mental wounds inward and making the person happy and free from
stress. This ensures that the person feels satisfied from within and gets the
energy and required optimism to fight against all odds.
In the recent years, it is proved through
studies that laughter has been a very effective remedy in treating
psychological illness. According to a recent research, the children who are
brought up is a happy and funny environment by humorous parents are better
suited for all kinds of leadership positions and better partners than the ones
than the ones who are brought up in a mundane and strict environment.
Humorous people are a joy to be around.
They make their colleagues and friends feel at ease and make them laugh.
According to many psychologists and mind sciences experts, people who read and
tell jokes or watch stand-up comedy performances are relatively less prone to physiological
disorders than those who don’t. Many
doctors, suggest their patients to read jokes online or from books or to watch
stand-up comedy in order to treat the illnesses, particularly for depression
and anxiety patients.
If you have a friend
or colleague who feels depressed at times, tell him good jokes and make him
watch funny stand-up comedy videos. A depressed
person becomes normal and forgets his worries by seeing some funny comedy
videos. According to a study, when a person watches a funny video, two types of
hormones are secreted from his/her body:
a. Beta-endorphins (which relieves
depression) increased by 27 percent
b. Human growth hormone (HGH, which helps with
immunity) increased by 87 percent.
